Civil Partnership Ceremony

holding hands

Your Civil Partnership Celebration Ceremony is a special occasion held to commemorate your union and legal civil partnership.

With an independent celebrant, your ceremony really can be whatever you would like it to be, including your love story, vows and the exchange of rings. The ceremony is a declaration of your love and commitment to each other and an opportunity to share your joy with family and friends. I’m based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire and travel to the surrounding counties.

As the ceremonies that I conduct are not legally binding, there are no restrictions placed by law and so I can be very flexible to create something amazing. The simple legalities (with a registrar, often a day or so before), should be completed first then you can celebrate your civil partnership exactly how you want to, wherever you want, at the time of day that works for you, and with as many people as you like taking part. In addition, you can include symbolic or special elements, such as a rose ceremony, unity candle, handfasting (tying the knot) or many others. If you would like some ideas for readings and poems, take a look at a few of my favourites by following this link.

As a fully qualified celebrant, I will discover what makes your love story special, learn your hopes for the future and plan a unique ceremony that is unique and perfect for you both.

Converting a civil partnership to a marriage

If you have a same-sex civil partnership, you can convert it into a legal marriage. You will need to sign a conversion into marriage declaration at your local register office.

After this, you can hold a Wedding Celebration Ceremony.

In England and Wales you cannot convert an opposite-sex civil partnership to a marriage.

Your Civil Partnership Celebration Ceremony package

Free initial discussion – Before you commit, let’s have a chat and you can decide if I’m the right celebrant for you.

Your planning meeting – We’ll meet to go through ideas and discuss all aspects of  your ceremony, which can be as simple or as elaborate as you want it to be. Meetings usually take place in person, but they can be virtual if that works better. At the meeting, you can tell me what you’d like to include, and we’ll discuss any special touches that will make it really special.

Your unique ceremony – I will research, plan and craft a unique ceremony that has your personal love story woven into it. You can include special or symbolic elements, such as handfasting, a rose or unity candle ceremony. Add in readings, poems, and, if wished, religious elements. You could even plant a tree and watch it grow as your relationship grows. You will have opportunities to make alterations until the plan for your day is simply perfect for you both.

Support – I’ll be available to guide and support you throughout the planning process. I can help write vows or promises, find the perfect reading, poems or music for your ceremony and I’m here for you if you have further questions or want to change something. Let me take the strain!

Collaboration – It’s important that everyone involved works together. On the day and in advance as needed, I’ll coordinate as needed with other suppliers, such as the venue, photographer etc.

Rehearsal – Whilst not always needed, rehearsals can be arranged.

On the day – I’ll be at the venue early to check everything is in place. I can coordinate with others and deliver the ceremony just as we agreed so do relax and enjoy your day!

Keepsake – As part of your ceremony, you can sign a commemorative certificate. This will be presented to you in a keepsake folder with a copy of the ceremony script.
